Because temperatures in the Arctic are rising at faster rates than in more moderate climates, Inuits and other people living in the Arctic are disproportionately experiencing the effects of global warming, many of which threaten the very lifestyles of these people.

Caribou, a staple of the Inuits diet, are falling through the thinning ice. Hunting, whaling, and fishing are becoming more difficult as species migration patterns change. Coastal erosion has increased as melting sea ice is unable to provide the protective barrier it did in the past. Also, usually ice-filled rivers and frozen soil are melting, flooding low-lying areas.
