February 15, 2006—Dog fanciers across the United States have a new champion to celebrate. Yesterday Ch. Rocky Top's Sundance Kid—affectionately known as Rufus—trotted off with the Best in Show cup, the top prize at the 130th Westminster Kennel Club dog show.

The colored bull terrier, seen taking his paces yesterday at New York's Madison Square Garden, was praised for his friendly attitude and "classic profile," according to the Associated Press. Rufus is the first of his breed to win at the prestigious event.

The Westminster show was first held in 1877, making it the second longest continuously held U.S. sporting event. For more Westminster history and photos, see "Westminster: Greatest Dog-Gone Show on Earth?"
