Kolkata (Calcutta), India, April 13, 2008A worker carries flowers to decorate the Maitree (Friendship) Expressthe first passenger train service between Kolkata and the Bangladeshi city of Dhaka.

Trains ran in both directions on April 14the first day of the Bengali new yearafter an interval of 43 years.

The service is expected to improve relations between the two countries. Many people in India's West Bengal state and Bangladesh speak the same language and have relatives on the other side of their border.
