June 23, 2008—Residents wade through a flooded street in the Philippine capital of Manila, on June 22, 2008, in the aftermath of Typhoon Fengshen.

The storm hit central Philippines early Saturday, setting off landslides and floods, knocking out power, and leaving hundreds missing.

Although no final death toll has been determined, more than 800 people may have died aboard the M.V. Princess of the Stars, a ferry boat that capsized midday Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

The Philippine government declared three entire provinces—Albay, Antique, and Iloilo—in a state of calamity, along with three towns in two other provinces, disaster officials told AP.
