Turkish sky-watchers and tourists enjoy a historic event from an equally historic vantage point. On March 29, 2006, a total solar eclipse appeared in the skies above the Roman theater in Side, Antalya. A total eclipse is visible only within a thin strip of land covered by the moon's shadow, called the "path of totality," which stretches around the globe. The path of totality usually covers less than one percent of Earth's surface during a total eclipse.
