The sun's fiery face reappears as a rare hybrid solar eclipse draws to a close in Macigual, Venezuela. During this 2005 event only about 1,500 people worldwide saw a total solar eclipse, which was visible in largely uninhabited regions of the Pacific Ocean. Many others saw an annular eclipse, in which the moon orbiting a bit farther from Earth than usual was not large enough to totally block the sun. Annular eclipses feature a fiery ring that glows around the edges of the moon's shadow.
