Nendaz, Switzerland, July 27, 2008—More than 120 Alphorn blowers play in an ensemble on the final day of the 7th International Alphorn festival.

The brass alphorn measures nearly 12 feet (3.65 meters) long. The instrument resembles a cross between the saxophone and the didgeridoo, according to World Radio Switzerland.

Originally created to allow communication across mountains, the alphorn is now primarily played in celebration of Switzerland's rich instrumental tradition.
