Sakhir, Bahrain, August 3, 2008—A black-crowned crane catches a drip of water from an air conditioning unit on an idling bus at the Al-Areen Wildlife Park.

Bahrain, a Persian Gulf island nation, is in the midst of a heat wave. This crane sought these drips as temperatures soared to 108°F (42°C).

The cranes are native to Africa. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature lists them as "near threatened" due to habitat loss, hunting, and the pet trade.
