ANIMAL PHOTOS WEEKLY: Doused Cobra, Leopard Cub, More

Aby Säteri, Sweden, August, 7, 2008—A snow leopard cub gazes at the camera at Nordens Ark, a nonprofit animal sanctuary.

The cub was born this spring at the nearby Kolmarden Zoo, but the cat's mother rejected the cub. The sanctuary adopted the cub in hopes of providing a more natural upbringing, alongside two snow leopard cubs born in May.

IUCN lists snow leopards as endangered. The cubs raised at Nordens Ark may someday be released into the wild. (See "Record Cache of Snow Leopard Parts Seized in China" [September 10, 2007].
