Quito, Ecuador, July 31, 2008—The Reventador volcano, found in eastern Ecuador, begins spitting lava, steam, and ash.

Experts from Ecuador's Geophysics Institute believe that this latest volcanic activity is not a threat to the surrounding villages or nearby oil pipelines, the International Herald Tribune reported.

Ecuador experienced more serious eruptions in early 2008, when the Tungurahua volcano spewed columns of ash into the air, prompting the evacuation of thousands of villagers.
