Key West, Florida, August 18, 2008--Residents and visitors in the Florida Keys held on tight this week as Tropical Storm Fay approached. Here, a young girl stands with her father on a windswept pier in Key West on Monday, August 18, 2008.

The storm, which caused several deaths in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, left the Keys relatively unscathed. It plowed across mainland Florida on Tuesday, though, dumping up to 26 inches (66 centimeters) of rain in some areas. The deluge prompted Florida's governor to request federal disaster assistance on Thursday.
