Photo: Arctic Summers Ice Free by 2040, Study Predicts



Satellite images of the Arctic from 1979 (left) and 2005 show a dramatic difference in minimum sea ice coverage at the end of the summer. If global warming continues unabated, computer models predict that the Arctic will have no more sea ice in the summer by 2040.
